Red Mesa - Not Your Typical Mexican Restaurant
No flash in the pan, Red Mesa has been bringing smiles to the faces of residents and visitors to St Petersburg since 1996. The restaurant's roots run deep. Peter and Shawn Veytia, owners of Red Mesa, operated Seabar, a very popular seafood restaurants at the same location on 4th Street for fifteen years before opening Red Mesa.
Executive Chef Chris Fernandez spent his childhood in restaurant kitchens in Oaxaca, Mexico. He was surrounded by a wide variety of foods and flavors and was always on the lookout for new tastes. This curiosity makes him particularly adept at experimenting with new ingredients, favors and recipes. in 1994, after working the Vinoy and the Columbia Restaurant, Chris joined Peter and Shawn at Seabar. When the time came to open Red Mesa, all three looked to their shared latin background for inspiration. Red Mesa was born.
Red Mesa remains a family business, with Peter and Shawn's sons Dana and Peter following in their parent's footsteps, ensuring many more years of new flavors and memorable meals.
Now, those in downtown St Petersburg can enjoy Red Mesa inspired dishes at the new Red Mesa Cantina - on the corner of 3rd Street and 1st Avenue South (below Push Ultra Lounge).
